Dr. Prafulla Kerkar, MBBS, DM (Cardiology) is an accomplished and highly skilled Cardiologist with over 31 years of experience in performing Cardiac Interventions for both adults and paediatric patients. He has been actively involved in the development of Interventional Cardiology programs since 1988 at KEM Hospital, Mumbai.
Dr. Kerkar has successfully performed over 5,000 Catheterization procedures, in addition to specialised treatments such as Coronary Angioplasty, Mitral, Aortic, and Pulmonic Valvuloplasty, as well as closure of VSD, ASD, and PDA Fistulas and other Shunts.
He has pioneered various Cardiac Procedures and conducted numerous interventional workshops, and is also a member of the editorial board of Postgraduate Journal of Medicine, and holds a position as a reviewer for several international and national journals.
Dr. Kerkar holds numerous certifications and credentials, including being a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.
Dr. Kerkar has been the recipient of several awards and achievements, including a TCT award for treating the most challenging Asia Pacific case, a Best Doctor’s Award from the Youth Organisation for Unity, and that he has performed the World’s largest series of non-surgical closure of RSOV.
He has written articles in various national and international peer-reviewed journals and is a member of the Postgraduate Journal of Medicine. Dr. Kerkar is a life member of the Cardiological Society of India, Scientific Secretary of Cardiological Society of India from 2009-2010, and a Fellow of the Cardiological Society of India.
